Heritage Day: Celebrating What Brings Us Together
Published on October 1, 2025
Heritage Day in South Africa isn’t just about braais, beats, and beading. It’s about the everyday things that connect us as a nation. Like that uncle who insists his marinade is “top secret” or the plumber who’s saved your geyser (twice) and now gets invited to every family event.
At Unitwist, we believe our plumbing systems are just as much a part of South African heritage as biltong and bunny chows because when the water flows, so does progress. That’s why, this Heritage Month, we’re celebrating YOU. The unsung heroes behind the scenes, keeping homes leak-free, one fitting at a time.

Why Heritage Day Matters to All of Us
Heritage Day is celebrated on 24 September every year in South Africa. It was originally known as Shaka Day, commemorating King Shaka Zulu, a unifier of Zulu clans and an icon of leadership. After 1995, it was renamed Heritage Day to recognise and celebrate the cultural wealth of all South Africans. It’s commonly nicknamed “Braai Day,” and even Archbishop Desmond Tutu was once named the patron of “National Braai Day.” Whether you’re Venda, Tswana, Afrikaans, Zulu, or Indian, the day is a reminder that all heritages matter in building our shared future and that we are stronger together, even when our traditions differ.
Just like every culture brings something unique, every Unitwist fitting plays a role; whether it’s a Clickclose tap or an Easytail fitting, the whole system works better together.
And as we celebrate the roots that shaped us, Heritage Day also calls us to look forward. At Unitwist, that means creating plumbing solutions that are sustainable, affordable, and built to last, so the next generation can inherit not just our heritage but a future with fewer leaks and stronger communities.
Why Unitwist? Because Local is Lekker.
Unitwist was born for the South African market, designed to save time, money, and tools. Our systems are specially made for our country. From the way we build to the challenges our communities face, our fittings are made to handle the realities of everyday life here at home.
But it goes deeper than convenience. Unitwist fittings are made from fully recyclable materials, supporting sustainability in an industry that often overlooks it. Unlike copper, which carries a high risk of theft, our products offer peace of mind; they are durable, dependable, and low risk. And because we know the realities of local conditions, Unitwist is engineered to handle tough environments, from the harsh sun regions like the Western Cape, where water quality can be especially challenging.
This is why Unitwist matters for the South African plumbing industry: we’re not just solving leaks, we’re solving them in a way that is practical, safe, and built to last in the unique conditions of our country.

We’re more than just fittings; we’re a South African family.
